martin2k (often shortened to m2k) was set up in 1999 by Martin Allen and was first hosted on FreeUK (the ISP used at the time). In 2000, the martin2k.co.uk domain name was registered (therefore the full name could be thought of as 'Martin 2000').

The content of the site originally included sections about Martin's interests with certain software programs, which were Doom, Klik & Play and Visual Basic 6.0. The Doom section still exists today in the Archive. Klik & Play was gradually replaced with a section called The Games Factory, which is a later version of Klik & Play. This has now been made into a section called martin2k Games, which includes games made by all types of game-making software. The Visual Basic 6.0 section still remains.

The most popular section of martin2k is the Forum. The Invision Forum was set up on 8th September 2004. In the current version of the forum (driven by phpBB), nearly 27,000 posts have been made by nearly 600 members (although previous incarnations of the forum have had considerably more of both). The Invision forum replaced a version of Phorum, which was set up previously. Boards include General Discussion, Computer Help, Visual Basic and Clickteam (Multimedia Fusion and The Games Factory).

Other parts of the site include NoteBook, Keep Track and the martin2k Web Directory.

The HTML section includes information on all HTML tags as well as tutorials on website creation. This will hopefully help people create basic websites.
